Greetings all,
While many of us wish the past year (and this session) had been one long April Fools’ joke, unfortunately, it has not. Still, Happy April Fools’ Day.
The regular legislative session has come to a close, and we are now heading into the veto session. Late Thursday night, the Kansas Legislature passed its FY 2027 state budget, with a vote of 67–53 in the House and 23–16 in the Senate. In the House, 20 Republicans joined 33 Democrats in voting no. In the Senate, seven Republicans joined all nine Democrats in opposition.
For a deeper look at what’s in the budget and a recap of the final week of the session, the Capitol Bee provides a helpful and detailed breakdown.
Last month, Shawnee County Democrats showed up in full force for Washington Days. From the volunteers who staffed our table to those who supported the Kansas Democratic Party, thank you for representing our community so well.
We were also proud to once again sponsor WEALTH Day at the Statehouse, highlighting the importance of Water, Energy, Air, Land, Transportation, and Health in building a stronger Kansas.
