What Is Volunteer Call Time?
Volunteer call time is when campaign volunteers contact voters directly on behalf of a candidate. The campaign provides a list of voters, phone numbers and a simple script or talking points.
Volunteers introduce themselves, identify the campaign they’re calling with and have a brief conversation about the candidate and the upcoming election. Depending on the campaign, you might share basic information, ask what issues matter to the voter, answer simple questions or remind supporters about voting.
You’ll also record the voter’s response so the campaign knows who has been contacted and where follow-up may be helpful.
Don’t worry about being a political expert. The campaign gives you the information you need, and if someone asks a question you can’t answer, it’s perfectly fine to say you’ll have someone from the campaign follow up.
