Women in Politics – Resources
Building a movement of young women who are ready to become the next generation of political leaders.
Women’s Campaign Fund
WCF is dedicated to advancing the political participation and leadership of women who support reproductive health choices for all. The oldest of its kind, WCF is a non-partisan, national organization that supports women candidates who respect reproductive health choices from the very beginning of their public life. Not bound by party politics, WCF gives the kind of focused care a woman candidate needs, when and where she needs it. WCF focuses on the woman, not only the race she happens to be in, and supports her throughout her public service career.
Political Institute for Women
The Political Institute for Women is an education organization that trains political candidates, political professionals and advocates. Through the Girls in Politics Initiative the Institute introduces girls ages 8 to 15 to politics, policy, the work of the US Congress, parliamentary governments and the United Nations.
Running Start is a non-partisan 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization created to educate young women about politics and encourage them to be political leaders. Running Start is dedicated to inspiring young women and girls to run for political office. Our goal is to increase the number of women in the United States who serve in elected office by planting the seed early that women are needed in politics. Our training programs emphasize that political leadership is an attainable and exciting goal for young women to pursue.

We aim for large-scale impact on women’s political representation never before seen in the United States. By harnessing the power of social networks as a new and powerful recruitment tool, creating an online platform to learn to run and lead, and conducting in-person trainings that build community, VoteRunLead will fuel women’s ambition for political leadership, redistribute power in our democracy, and close the knowledge gap around politics for women from all classes, cultures and colors.
Center for American Women and Politics
CAWP’s mission is to promote greater knowledge and understanding about women’s participation in politics and government, and to enhance women’s influence and leadership in public life. Visit our web site at http://www.cawp.rutgers.edu. The Center for American Women and Politics (CAWP), a unit of the Eagleton Institute of Politics at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is nationally recognized as the leading source of scholarly research and current data about American women’s political participation. CAWP’s education and outreach programs translate research findings into action, addressing women’s under-representation in political leadership with effective, imaginative programs serving a variety of audiences. As the world has watched Americans considering female candidates for the nation’s highest offices, CAWP’s nearly four decades of analyzing and interpreting women’s participation in American politics have provided a foundation and context for the discussion.
Whoever you are. Wherever you have been. You have the opportunity right now to be heard and make a difference. There are state and local political opportunities for pro-choice Democratic women just like you with a drive to serve and the courage to run.
Emerge America is the premier training program for Democratic women. We inspire women to run, we hone their skills to win. Our goal is clear: to increase the number of Democratic women in public office.

True Blue Women
True Blue Women gathers progressive women to provide education, advocate social change, and promote camaraderie. True Blue Women began in Overland Park, Kansas after the November 2004 election. Disheartened by the outcome, we decided to gather like-minded women to take action. Our first action was to mobilize against writing discrimination into the Kansas constitution. Our message: Celebrate Commitment, Value Tolerance, was spread throughout the Kansas City metro area through yard signs, bumper stickers and media exposure. Other priorities include:
- Advocating fair and equitable funding of education, health care and social services for all children.
- Supporting women’s access to health care and reproductive choice.
- Encouraging government and business policies that support family values by giving first priority to the economic and social needs of all families.
- Working for high educational standards in public schools, including instruction in the principles of mainstream science.
- Promoting conservation and the responsible use of environmental resources.

The job facing American voters… in the days and years to come is to determine which hearts, minds and souls command those qualities best suited to unify a country rather than further divide it, to heal the wounds of a nation as opposed to aggravate its injuries, and to secure for the next generation a legacy of choices based on informed awareness rather than one of reactions based on unknowing fear.― Aberjhani,
