July Newsletter

Greetings all,

It was a busy month in June! We had a great turnout for the Juneteenth Parade, an even better turnout at the No Kings Protest, and a Spicy evening at Pride Palooza.

Kansas House Democrats’  Fight Back tour also is countering efforts to shred the U.S. Constitution, trample our freedoms, and hurt those most vulnerable. MAGA’s megabill, with the biggest wealth transfer in U.S. history, is only beautiful for the rich while Medicaid, SNAP, and other programs Americans depend on face massive cuts.

It’s all a sobering reminder of Sam Brownback’s botched tax experiment. While GOP extremists in Kansas work to resurrect that mess, Democratic candidates who will fight back need our support … as does the “Vote NO” campaign against putting Kansas Supreme Court justices on the ballot. RESIST!

The deadline to register to vote for the August 5 Primary Election — including any updates to your voter registration, such as a change of address or name — is 5:00 pm on Tuesday, July 15, at the Election Office.

The Shawnee County Democrats Annual Picnic is back on Saturday, August 2 from 12pm-2pm, bringing together local Democrats, elected officials, candidates, and community members for an afternoon of connection and conversation. This event takes place at the IBEW 304 on 3906 NW 16th St, in Topeka!

Whether you’re a longtime volunteer or just getting involved, the annual picnic is the perfect place to meet fellow Dems, hear from leaders on the ballot, and enjoy good company.

Enjoy a powerful evening of song, storytelling, and spirit-filled organizing to celebrate the release of a groundbreaking new book by Rev. Liz Theoharis and Noam Sandweiss-Back: You Only Get What You’re Organized to Take: Lessons from the Movement to End Poverty. This book weaves together the struggles and victories of their movement’s history, offering a roadmap for navigating today’s urgent crises.
